ABOUT THE OWNERS
Tom and Charlotte Summer Charlotte Summer started teaching with a small town summer program at age 14, after years of training with the Girl Scouts and Red Cross. At the University of Mississippi she earned her certifications as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor and then taught their summer program for several years. After moving to Houston she found Phill Hansel’s “Houston Swim Club”, and started learning the benefits of a year round swim program; working with a swim team, and running a business for profit (new concept way back then). Charlotte worked for Phill Hansel for most of the next 20 years. In 1981 she went to Phoenix, Arizona to work with Lana Whitehead (Swim Kids USA), a pioneer in the infant swim world. She worked with Lana for over 4 years, and then brought the baby program back with her to integrate with Phill Hansel’s program, in Houston. In 1989 Charlotte and Tom Summer, started “Summer’s Swim Academy” in their backyard in League City. After 3 years, the business expanded to a leased location; then in June 2001 they opened their present facility with 2 beautiful pools, dressing rooms, showers, large waiting room, party facilities, and office. Tom Summer earned his Bachelor Degree in Horticulture from Texas Tech University, and has many years experience in sales, within the retail, wholesale, and manufacturing realms of the Lawn and Garden Industry. Early on lots of people mistook the new facility for a Greenhouse Nursery. Summer's Swim Academy is actually a blending of careers, by two individuals, who wanted to be in business for themselves. |
